Bunny End of Year Letter

Unprecedented. Surreal. Challenging. We’ve heard it all about 2020. Stephanie, Stanley and Ollie have spent an unprecedented amount of time cooped up together in their 700 square foot apartment. Ollie and Stanley find it challenging that their bun mom is around this much and tries to engage them in conversation. Surreal- well- you be the judge.

This year has been a year of high highs and low lows for Stephanie, Stanley and Ollie. Here are their highest and lowest points of 2020.

Stephanie’s lowest low

2020 started with a bang- Stephanie travelled to Japan and ate food for 14 days with friends. Then she returned on January 23rd at the same time as a flight from China. Stephanie stood in line at customs with passengers from that flight for over an hour. She’s not saying she met US COVID patient 0 that day- but maybe she met US COVID patient 14. Stephanie subsequently spent 85 straight days alone without in person human interaction. She finally got a fist bump on May 30th that felt like the feeling of eating ice cream out of the container when its 92 degrees in your apartment.

Stephanie’s highest high

In between a few summer adventures in the mountains and baking her way through 50 pounds of flour, Stephanie has transitioned from software engineer to software development manager for an Amazon team. Why anyone lets a 28 year old run a team that serves traffic to millions of people a day is beyond her, but she accepts the responsibility with vim and vigor. Maybe too much vigor, because her 2021 New Year Theme is “work life balance.”

Stanley’s lowest low:

In June, the vet took an x-ray of Stanley’s chest and told him he had weeks to live. Stephanie then got all upset and sentimental and forced Stanley to do a professional photoshoot. Stanley doesn’t like sentiment or photoshoots. The x-ray, he could handle.

Stanley’s highest high:

It’s December and Stanley’s not dead yet! Take that 2020. In true bunny form, Stanley takes no one’s advice and keeps on going at his own pace despite missing most of his lungs. He runs bunny 500s from time to time then stops to catch his breath before going for another lap. He also chewed a hole in the bed sheets. Stanley is understandably nervous about setting ambitious 2021 goals and instead will endeavor to beg a treat from Stephanie at least twice a day.

Ollie’s lowest low:

Ollie deeply resents the time Stephanie caught him chewing the carpet. She put him in jail. He was confined for three whole minutes and was forced to watch Stanley eat dinner first. He threw a cage rattling tantrum.

Ollie’s highest high:

Ollie has cherished the quality time spent with Stanley cuddling and grooming. While in quarantine, Ollie jumped on the home improvement train. He carefully curated a collection of holes in the carpet, 2 throw blankets and a pink throw pillow. It brought him joy. Stephanie doesn’t often agree with Ollie’s design choices but he thinks the carpet looks like a hundred bucks. Stephanie wishes it still looked like the $300 she originally paid. In 2021, he hopes to advance to renovating furniture.

Happy New Year

May the words we use to describe 2021 be joyous, fulfilling and unprecedented (but for all the best reasons).
